Our travels from Virginia to Kansas were not without adventure. We had difficulty throughout West Virginia. We made it to Kentucky, but the next morning we discovered we were leaking more than a little oil. So after three extra nights laid over in Shelbyville Kentucky with the truck at the Ford dealer and the horse at a stable across the road, we made the decision to head for Kansas without trailer and horse. Onyx is still in Kentucky but quite well cared for, but we made it safe and sound to Mom's house on Christmas Eve, just in time for lunch with Heather, Chris and Cailan. We even managed our Christmas Eve tradition of singing carols till the little ones fell asleep.

Of course Christmas Day is a blur of food, family and presents. And dogs. Lots of dogs, of whom I sadly have no pictures. Thanks to John, though, I have lots of pictures of the zoo. John has become quite the photographer lately. This flamingo posed beautifully for him, and oh so symmetrically.
The picture of Cailan is one of my favorites. I think he enjoyed the zoo the most out of everyone. I know he talked the most! And if I were to wager a guess, I'd say he learned the most too.
Three and a half years ago we took pictures of these same seven grandkids on these same gorilla statues. Cailan was awake this time.
So our truck is in the shop, and hopefully it will be good news and we can head to Kentucky after Onyx and the trailer, with all of our stuff in it. It seems that a hose was kinked, and that may have been the biggest contributing factor. We should know tomorrow. By the time we take care of that problem, hopefully John will have heard back from some of the jobs he's applied for. And the adventure will continue...
